All year long, Downtown Gig Harbor offers a wonderful variety of activities for all ages and caters to a range of interests. A lovely way to spend a leisurely Sunday or even a fun spot for a weekend getaway trip, the downtown area is right on the water for a true Gig Harbor experience.
To get a good look at everything, we recommend strolling along Harborview Drive. There’s a two mile walk that runs along the waterfront in the Downtown Historic District and it’s perfect for moseying along to admire both the historic charm of downtown as well as the Puget Sound.
Running between April and September, the Gig Harbor Farmer’s Market (locations at both Downtown and Uptown Gig Harbor) offers live entertainment, fresh produce, plants, flowers, baked goods, crafts, kids’ activities and more! There’s also the Gig Harbor Art Walk that takes places on the first Saturday of each month, 1 to 5 pm. Gig Harbor is the home of many artists, and downtown is great for browsing art galleries, shops and boutiques.
A fun place to check out is the Gig Harbor Gift Mall that features 14 themed rooms filled with antiques, greeting cards, jewelry and more. The building it’s in is the old Peninsula Hotel built in 1925 and provides an opportunity to get up close and personal with history! For history lovers, there’s also the nearby Harbor History Museum that has an interesting selection of galleries and changing exhibitions.
When it’s time for a quick and tasty bite, Susanne’s Bakery & Deli offers coffee, sweets and delicious sandwiches. Tides Tavern is another favorite that has a winning view of the water; plus, the building has been around since 1910! For those who are interested in checking out a craft brewery, 7 Seas Brewing Co. is only a couple blocks from downtown and has a Tap Room.
The Gig Harbor Historic Waterfront Association works to preserve the historic and ‘main street’ atmosphere of the downtown area, and for a closer look at shopping, dining, lodging, events and more, visit gigharborhistoricwaterfront.org!
